i read A LOT of blogs. like, maybe 20-30 blogs daily. most of them don't really talk about much of anything besides sneakers, new music releases or personal bullshit that really doesn't involve me or anyone i know. there are very few blogs i've read that post anything of value. anyway. what's more interesting than the blogs is the comments. & this where i begin. people really think they reserve the right to discuss people they've never met & places they've never been. i think living in any big city (or outside of a big city, i should say) comes misconceptions. i know damn well when i think of New York (i've never been, BTW) i think of skyscrapers & bums in Times Square. shit, i've been to Texas a handful of times & horses & cowboys & wide, open, green spaces are still the first things i think of when Texas is mentioned. even when i know for a fact it's not entirely like that.
people have everything so misconstrued. ESPECIALLY about Los Angeles. first of all, Los Angeles is not a place of complete & utter beauty. it does not take my breath away. i do not see movie stars when i walk out of my house. not everyone here is rich & not everyone is poor, either. Compton & Watts are not really as bad as they seem but you can still see some pretty gnarly stuff if you head out during certain times of the day. NOT ALL MOVIE STARS LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD. not all movie stars live in California for that matter. for the most part, when i think of L.A., i think of churches, hip-hop, restaurants, shopping, & Disneyland. probably like the rest of you. but at the same time, i think about the 'burbs like Long Beach(♥) and San Pedro and Torrance. and think about all the white girls on their Beach Cruisers that pass outside of my job. haha.
L.A. is dirty. it's rushed. everything here is rushed. we move a mile a fucking minute, faster than the Japanese i think. there are no flowers here. no green spaces. fresh air? at an all-time low. we have freeways, and 24-hour taco vans & hella tourists on the weekends. we have dry heat in the valleys (& just for the record: there are TWO valleys) & fog that piles up on the coast at night. all the television shows have lied to you. & to me as well. everything is edited & rendered to provide the most stunning frame possible.
but if you look with human eyes, L.A. is just a city. nothing more & nothing less. well, nothing more & nothing less until we each provide personal stories. then things change. but from an unbiased point of view, it really is just a city.
