i just finished watching this scripted show about John Adams and his term during his presidency. it also included Thomas Jefferson who was, of course, Vice President at the time. this particular episode chronicled a time when Adams was being pressured to make a statement & ultimately "take a side" in regards to the war between France and Britain. i was sort of intrigued during the point of the show when Jefferson tells Adams that a "national army would unite the country the same way a national bank would".

what a crock.

if you honestly believe that the military & the national banking system were used to unite America then there is something terribly wrong. now, of course i'm not depending on this show to be a primary source but i feel like maybe this is the way some Amercians think/feel. some people in this country honestly do believe that organizations created by our government are for our well-being & prosperity. & now that may be true for some things. but as far as i recollect (especially in regards to Bush's term) -- the government we have created is failing our country. the institutions the government has created to unite our country have done nothing more than strangle it.

that's just how i feel.
